Keānuenue Pediatrics Is a Reach Out and Read Site!

We’re proud to announce that Keānuenue Pediatrics has officially joined Reach Out and Read, a national pediatric literacy program that helps families build strong, healthy relationships and prepare children for lifelong learning—one book at a time.

This partnership reflects our deep belief in the power of early literacy and our commitment to supporting every keiki’s development from the very beginning.

What Is Reach Out and Read?

Reach Out and Read is a nonprofit organization that partners with pediatric care providers across the country to promote early literacy by making books and reading aloud a part of routine well-child care.

As a designated Reach Out and Read site, Keānuenue Pediatrics gives an age-appropriate book to your child at every well visit from 6 months to 5 years. These books are yours to keep and enjoy as a family. It’s one simple way we support your child’s brain development and your connection with them at home. Why

Does Reading Aloud Matter So Much?

Reading together from infancy helps children develop language skills, emotional bonds, and brain connections that last a lifetime. Even before babies can speak, they are listening, watching, and learning from every word and every page turned.

  • Research shows that children who are read to regularly:
  • Have stronger language and communication skills
  • Recognize letters and sounds earlier
  • Understand more words and how stories work
  • Develop better listening and attention skills
  • Strengthen memory, imagination, and curiosity

Reading aloud also helps children build positive associations with books—especially when it’s done in the warmth and comfort of a parent’s lap. That feeling of safety and love reinforces brain development in powerful ways.

And because 80% of your child’s brain develops by age 3, every moment of connection counts.

What to Expect at Your Visit

Starting at your child’s 6-month well visit, we’ll give your family a new, age-appropriate book at each checkup through age 5. We’ll also share simple tips on how to make reading aloud part of your daily routine—even if it’s just a few minutes at bedtime.

Whether you’re reading in English, Hawaiian, Pidgin, or another home language, what matters most is the rhythm, tone, and closeness of your voice. Keiki learn best from people they love.

Our Commitment to Families

At Keānuenue Pediatrics, we believe in the small, everyday moments that shape your child’s future. Reading aloud is one of the most powerful tools you have as a parent—and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

From our clinic to your home, we hope these books bring joy, connection, and a lifelong love of learning to your ʻohana.
